Technology of Hyperion

This is a work in progress, if you can help please send me a message or leave a comment here on this page. I am also working on other parts of the Technology of this story on the Help Wanted Page

ST Caps:     Solar/Thermo Capacitors – Energy conversion and storage assemblies

IM Comp:    Implanted Computational System – An embedded Computer System, usually implanted inside the body of its user.  The main system is implanted in the base of the skull where the spinal cord meets the Medulla Oblongata.  It then branches out into multiple nodes in the vital organs and central nervous system.  The System is an Enhanced Organic that with proper available materials and software can grow and modify itself as needed.

E.O.:    Enhanced Organic technology – A Synthetic Synthesized life form based on microbes and amoebas.  They are used primarily in computational systems and manufactory of military equipment.  This technology replaces Nano Molecular Technology, which developed sentience in the late twenty-second century and was banned for military use.

N.M.T.:    Nano Molecular Technology – Breakthroughs in Nano Technology in the early twenty-first century brought about a major growth in space travel and personal wealth.  Over 120 years of use and still in use for civilian manufactory, Nanos developed a type of group sentience.  As sentient beings, the Nano consciousness declared that it would not allow itself to be used for military purposes, or the taking of sentient life.

Med-Mic:    Medical Microbes – Specially cultured microbes that are a type of E.O. tissue.  Used for repairing organisms, i.e.: Mammalian creatures.  Microbes are farmed within the host body in the liver, gall bladder, pancreas and kidneys.  As they are used, new microbes are constantly replacing them.  Once excreted from the host body through waste functions, they are either captured and transformed into Mic-Assy’s or disposed of.

Mic-Assy’s:    Microbe Assemblers – Are either former Med-Mics that have been excreted from a host, or specifically cultured for the use of “growing” and “building” environmental (E-Suits) suits and it’s associated armor (E.O. Armor).  Mic-Assy’s can work on the atomic level, changing the atomic structure of a given source to almost any other atom or molecule.  They are limited in that they cannot work with highly radioactive materials, nor assemble heavier elements.  With proper RRR file and materials access they can assemble complex electronic circuits, super dense but flexible E-suits and extremely dense composite armor and weaponry.

RRR Files:    Reorder-Realign-Refit Files – Specialized IM-Comp files which control how Mic-Assy’s function.  Without proper RRR files Mic-Assy’s are very limited in what they can assemble.  The limitations are simple E-Suits and power storage capacitors.  With proper RRR files and materials Mic-Assy’s can build anything from E-suits and complex armor to small craft.  Mic-Assy’s have been used to assemble computer and weapon systems for various military space craft, and to finish assembling large space craft after the basic frame and computer systems are installed to control them.

E.O. Armor:    Enhanced Organic Armor – Commonly referred to simply as Armor, is a complex protective garment that is worn over an E-suit.  The armor interacts with the E-suit and is capable of having implanted weapons systems assembled into it.  The armor is assembled/grown on the outside of the hosts E-Suit, using metals, polymers, and other organic materials to form a Composite which while being very thin is very durable.  Fully grown/assembled armor covers the E-suit of it’s host completely and is proof against most projectile weapons, micro-meteoroid impacts, plasmic and radioactive weapons.  High powered Phased Plasmic weapons are able to severely damage most armor.

Fission/Fusion Reactor:  A Sodium-Potassium (NaK) Cooled Fission Reactor provides the power to charge capacitor banks and powers magnetic containment for the fusion part of the reactor.  When the capacitors are fully charged, the fission reactor then powers the magnetic fields to contain the fusion reaction and the capacitor banks power the lasing elements to ignite the fusion reaction.  The fission reactor will maintain power on the magnetic fields until the fusion reactor generates enough power on it's own to take over that function. The fission reactor will then be held on standby to maintain containment if needed and providing auxiliary power needs or additional power for charging the capacitor banks.  The Fusion Reactor uses Helium 3 or Hydrogen for it's fuel.  Most Fusion reactors can use both, but not at the same time as there are differing fuel feed requirements.  However most current built fusion reactors can switch from one fuel to another after a brief shut down and reconfiguration before re-starting with the other fuel.  Depending on the size of the reactor the change over can be completed in approximately 3 hours, however starting a fusion reactor still takes between 4 to 12 hours depending on it's size.
